Unearth vient du Massachusetts - capitale du metal et hardcore en Amérique du Nord. Unearth présente une nouvelle forme de musique avec des riffs charismatiques, des textes provocants et des breakdowns frappants, combinant d'une façon intoxicante le metal européen et américain avec le hardcore ethic and punch. Cette approche unique dans la scène underground fait de Unearth un des groupes les plus agressifs et émouvants d'aujourd'hui.

Formé en 1998, Unearth a réussi tout seul beaucoup plus que ce que peuvent atteindre d'autres groupes avec le soutien d'un label et de la presse. Des tournées aux USA, Canada et en Europe avec des groupes comme In Flames, Poison the Well, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, From Autumn to Ashes, Zao and Chimaira ainsi que le Headbangers Ball tour en automne 2003.

"The oncoming storm" enregistré aux studios Zing à Westfield, MA avec le producteur Adam Dutkiewicz de Killswitch Engage reste fidèle aux autres productions du groupe: un mélange explosif d'heavy metal (taping, swiping...), de hardcore, soupoudré de breakdowns et agrémenté d'un chant bien énervé alternant hurlé - "clair/saturé". Le résultat est un album de qualité, intense, le meilleur du groupe incontestablement.
